The Alsace region is a cool wine-producing region located in the northeast of France. Just to the west, across the Rhine, is Germany, and there are many similarities between the two regions when it comes to wine.
A major feature of Alsace wine is that the variety is indicated on the label (many other wine-producing regions in France do not indicate the variety).
Another distinctive feature is that about 90% of the wine produced is white.
The most famous of these is the "Alsace Grand Cru ", the highest grade in Alsace. This grade of wine is made up of four varieties: Riesling , Gewurztraminer , Pinot Gris , andMuscat . Most are dry, but there are also high-quality sweet dessert wines .
The shape of Alsace wine bottles is often taller and thinner than regular wine bottles, which is also similar to the characteristics of German wines.
