The word "sustainable" literally means "sustainable." In recent years, it is often used to mean "a way that can be continued into the future without destroying the Earth's environment through human activities."
As with other industries, in the wine industry, an increasing number of people are coming to the realization that wine production should not destroy nature or make places uninhabitable in the future.
New Zealand is a country where people have always had a high awareness of environmental protection, and is also known as an "organic powerhouse."
Wine production also has its own unique certification called " Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ) ", which was established in 1997, earlier than in other countries.
To obtain this sustainable certification, very strict standards must be met, including cultivating grapes with minimal use of chemical pesticides, and careful consideration of the various substances emitted from the winery during brewing. In addition, daily monitoring and measurement of this data is required to reduce the environmental impact.
Thanks to the efforts of each winery, 96% of New Zealand's vineyards are certified sustainable.
