The Rhone region, officially called "Côtes du Rhône," is a vast wine-producing region located in the southeastern part of France.
This region stretches from north to south, and the climate and soil vary greatly, resulting in different wine styles in the south and north.
The Northern Rhone receives a lot of sunshine and is characterized by the fact that it is made from a single variety of wine. The main red wines produced are Syrah, which has a smooth and spicy taste, and Viognier, which is dry, for white wine.
In the southern Rhone region, on the other hand, it is common to blend multiple grape varieties, and in the most famous wine-producing region, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, blends of up to 13 varieties are permitted for red wine.
