What is NZ wine?
The appeal of New Zealand wine is, without a doubt, its fresh and fruity aroma and flavor.
The country's representative grape variety, Sauvignon Blanc, and other white wines have a rich fruity flavor and are very catchy. They continue to fascinate wine lovers around the world.
However, that's not all that NZ wine has to offer.
When you open the door that says Sauvignon Blanc and take a look inside, you will see a wide selection of high-quality wines that make the most of the unique characteristics of the cool climate of the region.
Most of them are made by small, family-run producers known as boutique wineries, of which there are nearly 700.
They take advantage of New Zealand's natural beauty while also using modern technology, which ensures that the quality of their wines is high and consistent.
You start with rich, fruity white wines, and as you go further in you'll find a wide selection of FINE WINE (high quality wines with good aging potential).
Come join us as we discover the fascinating world of New Zealand wine.
How to choose New Zealand wine
Over 80% of the wine produced in New Zealand is white.
Among them, Sauvignon Blanc is the country's signature variety, loved by wine fans around the world for its unique aroma and flavor that is hard to find in other countries.
If you have never tried New Zealand wine before, we recommend starting with the country's signature Sauvignon Blanc .
In particular, the Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, the largest producing region, has distinctive aromas of grapefruit, passion fruit, and dried herbs.
However, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc generally has a crisp acidity, so for those who don't like acidity, we recommend Pinot Gris .
If you are familiar with the characteristics of the varieties, try a Riesling or Gewurztraminer . You will surely be surprised by the high quality.
Chardonnay often has a strong hint of both barrel flavor and fruitiness, and as the price increases, the barrel flavor tends to become more pronounced.
If you want to try red wine, we recommend starting with Pinot Noir .
Pinot Noir in New Zealand varies greatly depending on the region of origin. Those from Marlborough tend to have a strong fruit flavor, while those from Central Otago have a strong sense of concentration. Also, many of the wines from Martinborough have an elegant style that is closest to Burgundy.
All of these Pinot Noirs have clear fruity flavors, especially of berries, and are highly regarded around the world.
If you prefer a stronger, more astringent wine, try choosing a Bordeaux blend , a wine made with rich varieties such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. There aren't many Bordeaux blend wines in New Zealand, which has a cool climate overall, but high-quality ones are produced in Hawke's Bay in the North Island, which has plenty of sunshine. These too tend to be rich in fruit flavors.

If you are still unsure, leave it to our sommelier.
If you are still undecided, we recommend the "Sommelier Iwasu's Omakase Set."
This set is a special wine set created by our sommelier, Iwasu, "just for you" and sent to you "just this time."
Of course, you can leave it all up to us, but we will also prepare something according to your requests, such as "I'd like a light red wine" or "I'd like a rosé."
The total retail price of the wines we send you will always exceed the amount you paid for your purchase. Not only are they sommelier-selected, but they're also great value.
When sending wine to someone who has previously purchased wine from our store, we always check their history to avoid duplication as much as possible.
This is the perfect set for people who love wine but are not good at choosing it.
→ Sommelier Iwasu's Selection Set
We only sell wines that have been approved by our sommelier.
At Bokumo Wine, we only purchase and sell wines that our sommelier, Iwasu, who is fascinated by New Zealand, is satisfied with.
Even though they are all New Zealand wines, they have different characteristics.
For example, there are excellent wines that are very high quality despite being reasonably priced, and wines made by natural producers that require a little bit of experience on the part of the drinker.
The defining characteristics of New Zealand wine are its freshness and fruitiness, but another characteristic is that once you step inside, you will discover a deep world unfolding.
Please try the wines that Iwasu confidently recommends.
Try it and if it gives you a "heart-pounding moment" , then let's explore the depths of New Zealand together.
I'm sure you'll have an enjoyable New Zealand wine life.
