What is vintage?

Hi, this is Iwasu. After squatting down and weeding for about two hours, I've had terrible hip muscle pain the next day, the day after that, and the day after that (today).

Lack of exercise. Too bad.

My muscles are shocked because I suddenly started exercising.

Now, while I'm at it, I'd like to ask you all a random question.

"What is vintage?"

...Yes, yes.

If you raised your hand right away, you're up to your neck in wine. OK, put your hand down for now.

For those of you who don't drink wine, which makes up the majority of the population, what image do you have of the word "vintage"?

Ah, I see.

It's old and valuable.

That's what happens.

Vintage guitars, vintage cameras, vintage cars.

Everyone has an image of them being retro, cool, and valuable.

Okay, okay, all of you swimming in the wine pool can't keep quiet any longer. "No way!" you say.

Okay. Sorry to keep you waiting. So, all you red faced people, tell us what you think vintage means. Here we go.

"Grape harvest year"

Yes, that's right.

A vintage in wine refers to the year in which the grapes grown to make that wine were harvested.

So it doesn't really matter if it's old or new.

"I got some wines from the same winery that are different vintages (= harvest years), so I'll try comparing them."

"The style of this wine has changed a lot over the last few vintages."

That's how we wine fanatics in the pool use the word vintage.

The word "VINTAGE" originates from the wine terminology. VIN means WINE. TAGE is Latin for "take away." In other words, the word comes from the word "grape picking."

If the grapes harvested are of good quality, the wine from that year will be valuable.

In other words, because "wine from a good vintage (harvest year)" is highly valuable, the term came to be applied to things other than wine as well, saying that they are "valuable because they are old."

With that in mind.

"Latest Vintage"

I'm sure you'll understand that while this phrase may seem strange at first glance, it is actually quite common among us wine fanatics.

The latest vintage of white wine you can buy in Japan right now is 2022. For red wine, it may be 2021 or 2020.

Wine is made by harvesting grapes, crushing them, fermenting them, aging them, and bottling them. It takes quite a long time. Red wine in particular tends to take a longer time to mature than white wine.

Oh, there are exceptions, such as Beaujolais Nouveau, which is made using an ultra-fast brewing method.

Barring such special occasions, grapes harvested this year, in the fall of 2023, will not be made into wine until 2024 at the earliest.

This is what happens.

In the Northern Hemisphere.

But in the Southern Hemisphere, it's a different story.

In the United States, the grapes are harvested in February to April, and unaged white wines are sold in the market a few months after the harvest.

This means that wine from the 2023 vintage will be available in 2023.

In the case of white wine made from New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, it has been found that the central components of its characteristic aroma peak immediately after bottling and then gradually decline.

Freshly made wine has the most intense aroma.

Now you understand what I'm trying to say, right?

That's right. The latest vintage, 2023, is a highly aromatic New Zealand wine that is now arriving at Bokumo / Bokumo Wine!

This week, we are having a sale on Bokumo for the newly arrived "INVIVO × SARAH JESSICA PARKER SAUVIGNON BLANC 2023", and as expected the response has been extremely positive.

"It's got a really fruity feel to it."

"I want to keep smelling it forever."

Of course, it is. It is the latest vintage after all. The moment you pour it into the glass, the aroma of passion fruit fills the air.

It also has a very refreshing taste when you put it in your mouth. It's so fruity that you might mistake it for grapefruit juice. The lingering herbal aroma is irresistible.

Oh yeah, this latest vintage. I'd love to splash around in a pool of this wine.

Sales have also started today on the mail order website Bokumo Wine, so please check it out.

By the way, actress Sarah Jessica Parker, known for her role in Sex and the City, is involved in the winemaking of this wine.
