Father's Day is the third Sunday of June every year . In 2023, it will be Sunday, June 18th .

For your father, who always takes care of you, why not prepare his favorite wine for Father's Day and express your gratitude to him?
Father's Day is just around the corner! If your father likes wine or is interested in wine, be sure to check out the articles on this page.
We'll help you choose a wine that your father will love!
Give your wine-loving dad a delicious glass of wine!
First, here are four recommended points for wine gifts.
- Wine is a companion to mankind and a staple item for celebrations.
- There is a wide variety of gifts available, so you can choose one that suits the recipient's tastes.
- Wine brightens up the dinner table and can be a good way to bring people together.
- The bottle's appearance and solid feel are also appealing points
It is said that wine is an alcoholic beverage that has been produced for over 8,000 years and has been loved by many people throughout its long history.
Wine has been consumed on a daily basis, and is an essential item for celebrations, as the phrase "raise a toast" suggests. Another appeal of wine is that you can enjoy different characteristics depending on the growing environment of the grapes, the brewing process, and the aging period.
There is a wide variety of wines available, including red, white, rosé, sparkling, and the recently popular orange, and they come from a wide range of varieties and origins, so if you can choose a wine that perfectly suits your father's tastes, he will be very happy.
Also, wine is something to enjoy with food, so having a bottle of wine on the dining table makes it feel even more special. It would be wonderful if your father could spend some time relaxing and soothing his daily fatigue while drinking the wine you gave him.
Furthermore, the gorgeous appearance of a wine bottle and the weight you feel in your hand when you receive it give it a sense of weightiness, making wine a perfect gift for someone special.
It would be great to give your busy dad the gift of spending some luxurious time with a glass of wine!
Wine also brings people together, so it would be nice to get the whole family together and celebrate Father's Day with wine.
Tips for choosing wine
Here's some advice on choosing wine.
- Research your dad's tastes in advance and choose the perfect wine
- It's also a good idea to give your father wine from a country he has visited or a place he has a connection to.
As mentioned above, there are many different types of wine, so it's important to know your father's preferences in advance.
For example, if you research the details, such as what type of wine your father usually drinks and what his preferences are in terms of aroma and flavor, it will be easier to choose a wine.
Another idea is to give your father a wine made in a place he has been to or has a special connection to. This will surely spark conversation and create a great time together.
To make your giveaway a success, it's essential to do some research beforehand! Give yourself plenty of time to prepare.
And if your father has visited New Zealand, why not give him one of the New Zealand wines we carry in our store as a gift?
It's sure to remind you of your time in NZ.
Although New Zealand wines are highly regarded around the world, they are still hard to come by in Japan and difficult to obtain. That's why we're sure you'll be pleased!
Points to note and things to be careful of
Here are some things to keep in mind when gifting wine:
- Check the wine storage environment
- Check the temperature and room temperature, and be careful about the wine you choose and how you ship it.
Before giving wine as a gift, check how your father usually manages his wine. June is a hot season. Wine is sensitive to temperature changes, so you need to be especially careful during the hot season.
If your father has a wine cellar, it's fine to give him a wine that can be enjoyed aged.
However, if you don't have a wine cellar, it's best to avoid these types of wines. Instead, choose fresh tasting wines and encourage your guests to drink them as soon as possible. This will allow you to enjoy the wine's natural aroma and flavor.
If you don't have a wine cellar, please ask to store the wine in the refrigerator when the room temperature is over 30 degrees Celsius. This will allow you to store the wine without losing its quality.
Also, if you are shipping wine during this time, we strongly recommend sending it by refrigerated delivery.
Father's Day Wine Gift Prices
The average price for a Father's Day gift is generally said to be around 3,000 to 10,000 yen. When it comes to wine, we recommend choosing a wine that costs 5,000 yen or more for your Father's Day gift.
In the 5,000 yen and above price range, each winery produces prestige class wines, and there are more wines with a concentrated, rich flavor, so you will be highly satisfied. Furthermore, when you go over 10,000 yen, there are more rare wines.

Recommended NZ wines
From here, I'd like to introduce some of my favorite New Zealand wines that I recommend for Father's Day.

The first thing we would like to introduce is a special sparkling wine made using traditional methods.
Johanneshof Cellars is a winery that grows grapes on steeply sloping fields, which is rare in Marlborough, which is mostly flat land and gentle hills.
Johanneshof Cellars uses grapes with high concentration. This wine is produced using the same method as champagne, "secondary fermentation in the bottle". This process results in fine bubbles and a rich, aromatic wine.
Sparkling wine is already a popular gift, but dry wines are especially recommended as they can be paired with a wide range of dishes.

This wine is made using only grapes that have passed rigorous selection and meet certain conditions, and is fermented using only wild yeast and aged in oak barrels, taking great care in the brewing and aging process.
When enjoying it, it is best to heat it a little warmer than regular white wine and drink it slowly over time.

NZ Pinot Noir is loved around the world for its attractive fruity flavor.
This wine is produced by Pegasus Bay, one of New Zealand's South Island wineries.
This wine is made using whole-cluster fermentation (25% of the total), and wild yeast. In addition, the free-run (juice that is naturally separated by its own weight) and press-run (juice squeezed out by applying pressure using a press, etc.) are separated and barrel-aged, making this a special Pinot Noir that is packed with attention to detail.

What is the origin of Father's Day and what are the traditional gifts?

Father's Day is celebrated not only in Japan but also around the world. However, surprisingly few people know the origins of the day.
Father's Day began to be celebrated thanks to the actions of a woman in the United States.
Sonora Smart Dot's father, from Washington state, raised six children on his own after returning from the Civil War. Sonora, the youngest of six siblings, petitioned the Clergymen's Association in 1909, saying, "If there is a Mother's Day to express gratitude to mothers, there should be a Father's Day as well," and the Father's Day ceremony was held in June of the same year.
It later became popular after the 28th President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson, gave a Father's Day speech in 1916, and in 1966, the 36th President of the United States, Lyndon Johnson, established Father's Day as the current third Sunday in June.
By the way, the reason why it was June is because that was Sonora's father's birth month.
I'll also tell you a little about flowers for Father's Day. Carnations are a classic Mother's Day gift, but yellow roses are a popular Father's Day gift.
Giving roses on Father's Day is apparently common in other countries, but giving yellow roses is said to be a uniquely Japanese culture.
summary
Even if you feel "thankful," it's a little embarrassing to express your feelings honestly. I think there are many people who feel the same way. Father's Day is a great opportunity to express your gratitude to your father.
If your dad loves wine, surprise him with a special bottle of wine.
After you've finished drinking the wine, it might be a good idea to ask your dad about his thoughts and his preferences for wine.
After hearing his impressions, I'm sure it will be fun to continue sharing wine together for next Father's Day, and the year after.
