Do you like weight training? I don't like it.
When I was in high school, I belonged to the soft tennis club at a prefectural rural high school . When you write it down like this, the combination of "deep countryside x soft tennis" really makes an impact. It's like "countryside x no sunshine." It's kind of funny.
However, even though we were such a shady kid, we did quite well with strength training and running. The reason for this was that we had Takahashi, who loved strength training and running . We didn't really have a teacher to advise us, so we made up our own practice menus as we pleased. So when Takahashi, who loved strength training, said, "Let's start practicing in the mornings tomorrow," for some reason everyone said, "Okay, let's do it," and we gathered early in the morning to do strength training and running.
"It really feels good to move your body in the morning," says Takahashi.
"Oh, yeah, that's right."
Everyone and I answered the same, but at least I really wanted to stay in bed . But I couldn't say that in the cardboard box with the potatoes in the shade. I couldn't be the only one to sprout and emit the poison (solanine) of "I hate muscle training." I did sit-ups, push-ups, and ran around the perimeter (around the school) every morning in silence, in line with everyone else.
By the way, at our rural high school, you have to be prepared to risk your life when running around the perimeter. Because on the way, you pass by a pigpen adjacent to the school. When passing by the pigpen, you have to hold your breath. Morning practice was held in a very tough environment where you were forced to run without breathing, risking your life.
The reason we managed to continue in such a tough situation was because of Takahashi, who was the one who first suggested it and loves weight training. "It's fun to move your body, isn't it? I guess that's what I want to do. I want to run a sports gym in the future," he said.
How much do you like me? I already understand your passion. I'll join you in your muscle training. But, to be honest, I'd rather just sleep in my futon...
It's been 28 years since then.
With all this remote work and home time lately, my body is starting to feel terrible . I'm so exhausted . If I stay at home all day, my head is starting to feel fuzzy. But there's no one like Takahashi who can pull me out of bed and help me.
This is no good. I have no choice but to start weight training, which I hate . It was only when the coronavirus hit that I realized this.
If I do it, there's no point if I don't continue. But I don't feel like I can continue if I just do it normally. What should I do?
At that moment, I suddenly remembered my high school days.
I see, back then I was excited to see Takahashi and my club mates. That's why I forced myself to get out of bed and go to morning practice.
Ok, so combine fun with strength training .
So what is the fun thing you do every day?
With this in mind, we developed "Tea Muscle Training."
I love black tea. I drink about six cups a day at most. I like the aroma and the taste, and it suits my body. Darjeeling, Assam, Nilgiri, Ceylon, flavored, etc., it's quite fun to dig into it in detail.
That's right. There is a steeping time where you put a tea bag in a cup, pour in hot water, and wait. I like it a little weaker, so I leave it for about 2 or 3 minutes. I'll do muscle training during this steeping time. I can endure 2 or 3 minutes. This way, I can do something fun and something I have to do at the same time.
It's been a month since I thought of that.
I'm still doing it now. I do about 100 sit-ups every day .
Well, I don't think I'm losing weight or burning a lot of calories, but it's better than nothing. And since I'm doing it without Takahashi's orders, it's a big improvement .
And after tea muscle training, I feel like my brain is working better . I have a lot of radio work these days, so I spend a lot of time at home in front of the computer, but after tea muscle training, I feel like I can get straight to work without having to surf the net or play games.
That's fine, tea muscle training. Let's keep it up. Next time I meet everyone at the annual Soft Garden reunion, I'll let you know. I hate muscle training, but I'm doing morning training. Isn't that amazing? I even do afternoon and evening training with tea. It's only for a couple of minutes, though.
By the way, Takahashi-kun now runs a personal training gym in Fushimi and Nagoya Station. He's the best.
