Bitter wine

Four years ago, I went to the morning market in Wajima.

It was a great place. I ate a seafood bowl and bought some lacquered chopsticks that an older woman engraved with my name right in front of me. It was lively, and I felt like I was experiencing the power of the people who live in this port town.

That morning market was completely burned down in the earthquake on New Year's Day.

And I was watching the fire burn. I happened to find a fixed camera at the Wajima Morning Market on the internet, and I was watching the fire in real time.

In the darkness of the night, the flames spread cruelly, and explosions occurred many times. Worried, I got up at night, and then at dawn to watch the footage. It was still burning. The fire finally went out the next morning. It seems that an area larger than the Tokyo Dome had been burned down.

hard.

I hope that those people are not caught up in the disaster. I hope that as many lives as possible are saved. I hope that my strength will rise again.

As I write this,

Our days go by and we go about our normal lives. Normal business hours have resumed at Bokumo, and we have begun shipping Bokumo wine.

When I look at the wine in front of me, I feel a bitter taste in my mouth.

Wine tastes bitter when you drink it while thinking of someone in pain.

I think about it every time an earthquake occurs, but I don't always know the answer.

In the end, all you can do is do something within your reach to calm yourself down.

I make a small donation while remembering the bustling morning market and the fun memories I had there. It has become an excuse to get through my daily life.

This New Year's holiday reminded me once again that spending each day aimlessly actually puts us close to disaster.

Now, for now, it's time for a commercial break.

Commercial end.

Now, here's some interesting data.

Maybe it's just me and the chef who find this interesting, but when we looked at the POS data to see what Bokumo's most popular menu items were at the end of the year, the chef and I were both surprised.

The result was...

The most popular drink on the menu

"Sauvignon Blanc (wine by the glass)"

In the year 2023, 1,139 glasses were sold. This was as expected. It's a popular wine after all. This wine has an overwhelming personality.

In particular, when it comes to glasses, we carefully select ones that have a strong, distinctive grapefruit or passion fruit aroma, and we receive many repeat purchases.

When you sit down, the first thing you drink is Sauvignon. Thanks to the support of such customers, we are ranked first in the drinks category.

The most popular food menu item

"Lamb chop steak"

2,554 bottles in the year 2023. Wow! That's a lot!

I knew it was popular, but the numbers are a bit surprising.

Well, the New Zealand customers who come here often say that it's better than the food they get at home. It's a masterpiece that they're proud of. The chef is amazing.

If we do a simple calculation based on the number of sheep we produce, it probably comes to about 100 sheep per year. If we produce this much, wouldn't it be better to start raising sheep? I'll seriously think about how I can run a sheep farm.

By the way, the second place drink was "Pinot Noir (wine by the glass)" and the second place food was "Blue Cheese Potato Salad."

That's right, the "Ramburg & Mash" that was introduced at the end of the year, when you look at the data for December, the number of orders is almost as high as that of lamb chops. An amazing rookie. There's no doubt he'll become a regular and a clean-up hitter. He's reliable.

This year, I would like to create new material that will threaten this top batting lineup.

Well, today's Bokumo is fully booked thanks to your reservations. Bokumo wine is shipped in large quantities. We are grateful for our daily lives.

I savor it and head to work.

May nothing happen to make the wine bitter.
