With simple things, you can predict what the finished product will look like from the beginning, but with more difficult things, it's harder to predict.
As the number of lines increases, the pattern gradually appears, and when you draw a certain line, you think, "Ah, maybe this is it," and when you go further, you realize that it is what you really meant.
Once I understood it, it felt a bit like a formality, but I want to finish it so I'll see it through to the end.
It's even more fun to look back at the turning points after you've finished, like, "When I drew the line from number 33 to number 34 , I realized it was a rocket."
Recently, I sometimes feel like, "Life is also made up of dots and lines."
I think that in most cases, we connect the dots that happen on one day to the other and interpret them as a context.
My shop, Bokumo, opened in July 2009 .
On the day of the opening, we had our part-time staff hand out flyers at nearby stations.
I don't remember much about the first day because I was so nervous and hectic, but I do remember someone coming up to me and saying, "I just got this flyer at the station." I was so happy.
A few years later, a customer came to the counter alone.
This woman and her male companion often sat at a table together.
"You're alone today, aren't you?"
" I said,
"Yes, I've been coming here with my colleagues for a while now, but I thought I'd like to have a drink by myself sometimes."
With that, he took a sip of his wine, looking a little nervous.
I,
"By the way, what made you start coming to this store?"
When I asked him, he replied happily.
"Actually, on the first day of the store's opening, I received a flyer from a part-time worker and came here. I don't usually come around here, but that day I happened to have training in this area and received a flyer, so I stopped by after the training."
"Really? I'm so happy! But, to be honest, I don't really remember much about the first day, sorry."
"No, no, of course I don't remember. But I remember this store from the first day it opened, so I'm a bit proud of that."
By chance, there was a training session in the Yabacho area that day, and I picked up a flyer that was being handed out. Since then, I started coming with a friend, and then a few years later, I started coming alone.
Lines connected from dot number 1 to number 2 and then to number 3, and the man became a regular customer at the counter.
After that, he became friends with a woman who had come to the store alone, and after they started dating, he began coming there on dates.
And just the other day, I received the news that he was going to marry that woman, along with an invitation to the wedding.
The dots carry the lines in unexpected directions, creating a picture shape that was not initially anticipated.
I think that from now on, new points will emerge and new shapes will be created.
Unlike the "connect the dots" games we used to play, you don't know what the finished picture will look like.
However, we can look at the "temporary completed picture" so far and look back on the points.
That was the turning point.
I can look back and reminisce like that, and it's a lot of fun.
Well, I will soon open a wine shop called "Bokumo Wine" . Also, I will start from the number 1.
The other day, I went to a local wine shop that I have been going to for over 10 years to get some reference for wines to purchase at my store. There are many treasures of wines hidden in the basement cellar.
Behind me, a couple older than me came down the stairs and were chatting amicably together.
"There's a lot of variety here. I wonder where they have New Zealand wine."
"Hmm, I'm not sure."
Oh? This couple is looking for New Zealand wine!
This store does not have any staff in the underground cellar.
I couldn't help but call out to him.
"Um, if you're in New Zealand, it's around here."
"Oh, I see, thank you. I heard that this place has such a good selection that even professionals come here, but we just don't know what to choose."
"Is that so? I can explain a little about New Zealand wine..."
I was so happy that I ended up being a bit bossy.
I heard that when they went on a trip to New Zealand together, they visited a winery and it was a wonderful place. The wine they drank at the restaurant was delicious.
So he came looking for some New Zealand wine like the one he had back then.
What a coincidence.
I told them about the wines I recommend, that I run a restaurant where you can drink New Zealand wine, and that I'm going to open a shop that specializes in New Zealand wines.
"I'll come to the store after the coronavirus closure. I'm looking forward to the wine shop too."
The couple returned to earth with the wine I recommended.
I suddenly came to my senses and realized that it was bad manners to advertise my shop in someone else's shop. So, to apologize for violating the rules, I bought more wine than usual.
Even so, this point is one that leaves a lasting impression. If it were to become a line, it would definitely be the first shiny point that I would remember.
Now, from what points will lines be drawn?
Let's not imagine what the finished product will look like, because even if we did, it would probably end up being quite different.
New Zealand wine shop "Bokumo Wine" will be launching soon! (We were hoping to launch it in May, but it looks like it will be June, sorry).
This week's wine and snacks
TE KAIRANGA TK PINOT NOIR 2018
Te Kairanga TK Pinot Noir 2018
The Pinot Noir I bought at the wine shop earlier.
Martinborough, where this wine is made, is said to have similar climate and soil conditions to Burgundy, and is known as a region where Pinot grows well. However, the area is very small, and there are not many wineries.
Te Kairanga is the largest winery in the small town of Martinborough, with a Master of Wine involved in the brewing process, producing high quality wines.
When I entered the winery name " TE KAIRANGA " into a Maori translation tool, it came out as "Creator." Wow. That's a cool name.
Immediately after opening, it feels a bit hard, with a noticeable bitter finish. I thought it might be a slim Pinot, but once it was exposed to air, it was amazing. The flavor improved and the taste became more rounded.
Swirl it around and drink it, and the slight sweetness of the berries, earthy flavor, and bitter taste come together nicely.
Now, the food. For a Pino with a strong flavor like this, meat is the best. Also, I wanted the umami of soy sauce and a little bit of fattiness...
I tried making Japchae.
It was full of vegetables and pork, and the chili was less spicy. The result was great!
Pinot Noir with sweet and spicy Japchae is very good!
