I'm saying something very obvious.
Life is full of things that "have to be done".
Furthermore, when it comes to opening a store, it's not just an overflow, it's more like a water pipe bursting, breaking through a manhole and spurting high into the sky. That's what's happening now.
However, finding enjoyment in the things that have to be done is a necessary skill for many adults .
Before I started my own restaurant, I worked part-time in the kitchen of a fairly large restaurant in Tokyo. The head chef who took care of me there was someone who knew these skills inside and out.
One day after the break, I was assigned the task of cutting up a cardboard box full of potatoes to make French fries.
Just carrying the heavy cardboard box full of potatoes to the kitchen makes me sweat and hurts my back.
Oh no, they're going to cut this now, I'm so disappointed. I must have had that look on my face because the head chef, who was watching next to me, said to me,
"All right, Gan-chan (that was my nickname at the time), I'm going to use a stopwatch to see how many minutes it takes to finish one box. This is a time race. The monthly winner will get a nice meal. Let's go, set, go!"
Seriously! I've only been here a short time! I was finally taught how to cut hair just the other day!
I cut the potatoes in a hurry, but I am so focused on it. My arms hurt. My grip strength is getting weaker. But I have to finish the whole box.
"Yes, 10 minutes have passed. Too bad, time's up. The best time in this kitchen is 5 and a half minutes. We still have a long way to go before we can have a luxurious meal."
It was frustrating. But it was fun. The 10 minutes went by in a flash.
Since that day, this potato time race has become a fun one for me . Even now, when I think back, I think the head chef at that time was amazing. I think he wanted to teach me that work is a game in which you can find enjoyment in it.
In preparation for the store opening, when I do simple tasks such as registering products, I might try something like a "keyboard typing time race." Or a "contest to see who can pack the items neatly" might be good.
On the other hand, there are jobs that are game-like from the start, even if you don't make a game like that. In my case, it's about design.
When I'm designing the menu or posters to put up in the store, I get totally absorbed in it. Well, I do it in my own way, so I shouldn't call it work.
Posters I made in the past: <Notice regarding the store's Obon holiday>
I went to an art class for six years when I was in elementary school. It was the best time for me to have fun. I thought art classes at school were paradise. I wanted to work in the arts or design field in the future.
Even now, I love looking at designs in the city, and I enjoy choosing fonts and drawing logos. For me, anything related to design is almost a game. I could do it forever.
However, on the other hand, doing that can be a problem because if you do that all the time when you're busy, you won't be able to get any work done.
Right now, there's a lot to do in order to set up a wine shop, from planning the product lineup to gauging numbers to building shelves, so there's no room for games.
As expected, it's up to the experts to make the right choice. Logos are all about the designer. So this time, I asked my friendly designer friend Takasugi-san to create two logo designs for my new wine shop.
"Bokumo Wine" logo, plan A and plan B
Since we couldn't decide between the two, we decided to hold a vote online. As a result, we decided on plan B , the hexagonal logo .
If I were to create something of this quality (which I probably couldn't do), it would be so much fun that it would have taken me about two full weeks to make, which was close, so close.
So, now that the face of Bokumo Wine, a New Zealand specialty wine shop, has been decided, the next step is crowdfunding.
It has already begun!

This week's wine and snacks
Aozora Sauvy Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2019
Aozora Sauvie Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2019
What a stylish wine name.
It makes me imagine a clear blue sky.
Actually, this label was created for Japan at the suggestion of the importer. I think this is a good idea. It's a genuine New Zealand wine, but it has the Japanese name AOZORA . I think it will be much more accessible.
The taste is like pink grapefruit , with a nice sourness and a slightly bitter taste.
The price is relatively reasonable at around 2,000 yen, so you might think it's a quick drink, but it's not. It has a rich flavor and is a great bargain.
I also included it in the crowdfunding package that I put together.
The snack that came with it was fried chicken.
Recently, fried chicken restaurants have been quite popular. They seem to be a common sight along major national highways. However, I have been watching the boom calmly, thinking, "Is it really worth going out of your way to buy fried chicken?"
However, it's unfair to approach me from that direction. It's really annoying, but a fried chicken restaurant has opened on my way to work .
On the way home, I was drawn to it. I couldn't resist eating it. It was not cool at all. It was piping hot!
And to make matters even worse, fried chicken pairs really well with Sauvignon Blanc . It's so troubling. I'll just make excuses like "It goes well with Sauvignon Blanc, so it can't be helped" and go back again! Seriously! I'll get fat!
