Two Rivers' limited production wines are part of a series with labels featuring the striking "black sash."
This Saint-Maur Sauvignon Blanc is limited to 2,000 numbered bottles produced each year . It is a natural wine made with the aim of minimizing human intervention .
Grapes grown in Marlborough's Southern Valley are fermented in wildhouses and then aged on the lees in concrete egg tanks and clay amphorae .
After 16 months of aging , the wine is bottled unfined, unfiltered and with low sulfur dioxide , and then aged in bottle for a further 14 months before being released.
The result is a wine with a natural and deep flavor that is different from the gorgeous and fruity taste of the traditional Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. I think it can be called a "challenging wine of the new era" that could become the next standard for Two Rivers.
Aroma and taste
The nose has a gentle lime-like citrus scent, with hints of young melon, papaya and pleasant herbs.
The flavor has strong non-fruit elements, with a fragrant, creamy taste reminiscent of baked corn and almonds , a subtle citrus freshness, and a salty aftertaste .
It feels as though each element supports the other , creating a delicate balance.
Although it is not flashy, it is a wine that offers complexity and good balance .
Unusually for New Zealand wine, it uses a diam cork and is sealed with a wax cap .
To uncork, insert the screw of the wine opener through the wax cap and use force to remove the cork.

About Two Rivers Winery
Two Rivers is a winery founded in 2004 by winemaker David Clouston, who was born and raised in Marlborough.
The son of a fifth-generation farmer in Marlborough, he became interested in wine at the age of 17 and studied cultivation and brewing in New Zealand. After that, he experienced winemaking in 25 vintages in countries around the world, including New Zealand, France, Spain, Corsica, the United States, and Chile, before returning to New Zealand and starting up this winery.
The name "Two Rivers" comes from Marlborough's two most iconic rivers, the Wairau River and the Awatere River.
In 2019, the company also fully launched its long-awaited in-house brewery, "The Wine Studio." Huge, state-of-the-art stainless steel tanks are lined up alongside concrete egg tanks and amphorae, and the brewery's appearance conveys the company's respect for classical winemaking while also always seeking to try new methods.
