A slightly rich, flavorful Pinot Noir
This wine uses grapes from the Southern Valleys of Marlborough, an area with a high proportion of clay soils. The grapes are hand-picked and then fermented with wild yeasts. 30% of the wine undergoes whole bunch fermentation, and it is aged in barrels for 11 months (25% new oak).
It has a slightly dark appearance, and the aroma is distinctively Marlborough with abundant fruit notes. Pleasant earthy nuances and fragrant oak notes can also be felt.
On the palate, dark cherry and plum fruit flavors, along with cinnamon-like spice and rich tannins, spread throughout. It is a youthful and vibrant Pinot Noir with impressive concentration.
Recommended food pairings include Jingisukan (grilled lamb), lamb chop steak, teriyaki chicken, and Salisbury steak with demi-glace sauce.
About the Winery: Two Rivers
Two Rivers is a winery established in 2004 by winemaker David Clouston, who was born and raised in Marlborough.
The son of a fifth-generation Marlborough farmer, he developed an interest in wine at age 17 and studied viticulture and winemaking in New Zealand. After that, he gained experience in winemaking for 25 vintages in various countries around the world, including NZ, France, Spain, Corsica, the US, and Chile, before returning to NZ to establish this winery.
The name "Two Rivers" comes from the two major rivers of Marlborough, the Wairau River and the Awatere River.
In 2019, their long-cherished dream of operating their own winery, "The Wine Studio," became a reality. Lined with huge, state-of-the-art stainless steel tanks, concrete egg tanks, and amphorae, the winery's appearance reflects a continuous challenging spirit toward new methods while respecting classical winemaking.
