Dry and complex cloudy orange

Dry and complex. Deeply delicious.

It's not flashy enough to make you go, "Wow, what is this?" after just one sip, but the more you drink it and the more you smell it, the more you'll be drawn in. That's the orange wine.

Dry, complex and hazy .
But the flavor inside is straightforward and solid.
This wine gives you a sense of quiet energy.

A "mosaic of aromas" of grape varieties

The grapes used are a truly unique combination.

  • Pinot Gris 62%

  • Sauvignon Blanc 23%

  • Pinot Noir 14%

  • Plus small amounts of Gewurztraminer, Muscat and Viognier

The focus is on white wine grapes, with some red grapes and a small amount of aromatic varieties.
This "mosaic of aromas" is exquisitely arranged on the canvas of orange wine.

All cultivation is certified organic (BioGro) .
The wine is made from grapes from the vineyards of North Canterbury and Central Otago, highlighting the unique characteristics of the cool climate.

Brewing style: Natural and aggressive

This wine is also carefully crafted.

  • Whole bunch fermentation (12-24 days)

  • A small amount of Blanc de Noir juice is added during fermentation.

  • Aging for 6 months in concrete tanks, clay amphorae and old barrels

  • No antioxidants added, no clarification, no filtration

The result is a slightly cloudy appearance that is typical of natural wine, but the inside is rather refined.

Aroma and taste: Rich, astringent, and addictive

The exterior is a soft, cloudy orange color , with the cloudiness that comes with a natural structure, and its unique appearance is already apparent.

When you bring the glass closer...

  • Bitter taste like Campari or orange peel

  • Sweet spices, dried flowers, and a hint of herbs

  • Lightly fermented natural wine aroma

When you put it in your mouth, the fullness of the fruit and spice spreads, along with a strong astringency that runs through it like a backbone .
The bitterness is so pleasant that you can't finish it after the first sip. Before you know it, you'll be reaching for another bowl.

The aftertaste is dry, with a salty minerality that spreads throughout the mouth.

Pairing example: Goes well with aromatic and spicy dishes.

This wine's complexity and strength make it even more appealing when paired with food.
It goes especially well with dishes that feature spices and aromas.

Here are some recommended dishes:

  • Chili con carne (a combination of spice, fruitiness and bitterness)

  • Jerk Chicken (smoky flavor and bitter orange peel)

  • Roast chicken with cumin (exquisite balance of savory flavor and tannins)

  • Green curry (the complexity of herbs and coconut matches well with aroma and acidity)

  • Lu Rou Fan (The aroma of star anise and the sweet and spicy taste are perfectly matched with a hint of saltiness)

  • Ceviche (Citrus and salty with hints of fruit peel and acidity)

This is a wine that is fun to drink because of the multiplicative pairing of aroma x aroma, spice x astringency.

About the winery "Pyramid Valley Vineyards"

Pyramid Valley Vineyards is located in the rolling hills of the Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island. The moment you take a sip of their wine, you'll feel as if the wind, light, and tranquility of that land come back to you. The cool breeze from Pegasus Bay, the starry sky, and the pastures with sheep - these are scenes that anyone who loves New Zealand will feel nostalgic about.

Winemaking that respects the power of nature

This winery was founded in 2000 by Mike and Claudia Wersching. Based on their belief that "let the land speak for itself in the wine," they practice biodynamic farming, which does not use any chemicals. The fields are cultivated in accordance with the rhythm of the moon, and fermentation is carried out with natural yeasts rather than cultured yeasts in the winemaking process. Human hands are only there to "guide" nature, drawing out the power and terroir inherent in the grapes themselves to the fullest.

The challenge of a new generation

Currently, Steve Smith MW, a leading New Zealand winemaker, and Brian Sheth, an American businessman, have taken over the winery and expanded the vineyards to Central Otago. The Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which make the most of the unique characteristics of each land, have been highly praised by wine magazines around the world. One cuvée has even received a high score of 97 to 98 points from Vinous.

A New Zealand memory in every cup

The wine in your glass tells you more than just its taste. It is filled with respect for nature, the passion of the wine maker, and the memories of the special land of New Zealand. Pyramid Valley Vineyards wine will gently deliver the scenery and feelings of New Zealand to those who truly love the country.

About North Canterbury

North Canterbury is a notable wine-producing region on the east coast of New Zealand's South Island. The cool, dry climate, abundant sunshine, and long growing season allow Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, and other grapes to be grown at high quality. The diverse soils, including limestone and clay, also give the region's terroir its unique character.

This region is home to many small, family-run wineries that take an artisanal approach to winemaking. The Waipara Valley is known for its excellent Pinot Noir and Riesling wines, thanks to its mild microclimate and soil characteristics. The Canterbury Plains also feature flat land cultivation.

North Canterbury is currently attracting worldwide attention as a premium wine producing region.
