Nelson is a relatively small wine region in New Zealand. It's less than two hours' drive from the major Marlborough region, but it possesses a distinct character of its own.

This region features a landscape where the Tasman Sea lies to the east and Kahurangi National Park to the west, with coastal plains intertwining with hills leading up to the mountains.

Within this unique environment, Old Coach Road crafts its wines using grapes from vineyards in the Brightwater district, located at the foot of the mountains, and the Motueka district, closer to the coast, resulting in a well-balanced finish.

In both vineyards, taking advantage of Nelson's abundant sunshine, leaves around the grape clusters are removed to ensure sufficient sunlight. This also provides adequate airflow, reducing the risk of disease. These healthy, perfectly ripe grapes produce this fresh and vibrant wine.

Seifried Estate was founded by the Seifried couple, immigrants from Austria. They began developing vineyards in the 1970s and are now known as the most historic winery in the Nelson region. They excel in Austrian and German grape varieties, their ancestral roots, and have won numerous awards in international competitions.

About the Nelson Region

"Nelson" is located in the northern part of the South Island and is affectionately known as "Sunny Nelson" due to its exceptionally long hours of sunshine annually.

In this relatively small region, most wineries are small-scale, often referred to as boutique wineries.

Utilizing the abundant sunshine, Nelson primarily produces Chardonnay and aromatic white wines such as Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, and Pinot Gris. Among red wines, Pinot Noir with its rich fruitiness is popular. Nelson is also famous for its hops and fruits.
