High quality Pinot Gris with plenty of flavour
Waiheke Island is known as one of the "holy lands" for New Zealand wine fans. It is truly a wine island, with around 30 wineries on the small island.
It is a vacation home and tourist destination, and has a restaurant where you can hold weddings, where you can enjoy the excellent wine and cuisine from the island.
The largest winery on this island, which is a favorite destination for wine fans, is Man O'War. The name is taken from the name of the place where the winery is located, and the origin of the name seems to be the name of a British warship.
This winery produces very high quality Bordeaux-style red wines, but their whites are just as good.
The newly arrived Pinot Gris has a rich, honey-like flavor that is unique to wines from warm islands.
However, since it is still a young wine, harvested in 2022, it has a fresh, popping texture that comes from fermentation.
It has a nuance similar to a compote, like stone fruit (a general term for fruits with large seeds such as plums) that has been simmered with honey.
You can also taste the bitterness of orange peel and the spice of ginger and cinnamon.
The aftertaste is slightly sweet and very long.
It is recommended to drink it chilled.
It is best to pair it with a meal that has a slightly sour taste. For hot pot dishes, it goes well with ponzu sauce, pork, or chicken hot pot.
If you have fried foods such as fried chicken, I think adding a generous dash of lemon juice will greatly enhance the compatibility with this wine.
It also goes well with sour New Year's dishes such as red and white pickled vegetables and vinegared lotus root.
Grilled white fish such as sea bream goes well with a squeeze of kabosu citrus fruit drizzled on top.
It's also a wine that leaves you feeling very satisfied with each sip, so you can enjoy it on its own.

In Waiheke, where there are only high-end wines, this winery also offers wines in a relatively affordable price range.
