In 1985, Cloudy Bay's Sauvignon Blanc received high acclaim in the UK, which led to "NZ Sauvignon Blanc" gaining attention from wine lovers worldwide.
The wine's aroma and taste were unique at the time. It was hailed as "the wine that awakened the world to white wine" and elevated NZ as a wine-producing region onto the global stage.
It's no exaggeration to say that without the success of Cloudy Bay, the branding of "NZ = Sauvignon Blanc" would not have been achieved.
This wine is the latest vintage of Cloudy Bay's flagship Sauvignon Blanc.
The aroma features strong citrus notes like grapefruit and pink grapefruit, along with tropical fruit scents such as pineapple. Swirling the glass reveals distinct aromas of cut grass and dried herbs.
This year's vintage immediately presents prominent fruit and herbal aromas upon pouring. Furthermore, as it airs, it develops a deeper, more complex aroma with a hint of sweetness.
The taste is characterized by crisp acidity, accompanied by a very impressive richness that lingers on the tongue.
In addition to the grapefruit notes perceived in the aroma, there's a subtle hint of ginger-like spiciness.
Later, herbal nuances gently emerge, and a pleasant slight bitterness accompanies the acidity.
The alcohol content is a relatively high 13.5%, but the palate is very fruity. The finish is dry, with a long, lingering savory aftertaste.

About the Winery: Cloudy Bay
Cloudy Bay was established in 1985 by David Hohnen, founder of the Australian winery Cape Mentelle. It was one of the first wineries to take root in the Marlborough region, known as a vast wine-producing area in NZ.
Cloudy Bay's Sauvignon Blanc was unique at the time, combining aromas of passionfruit and other tropical fruits with herbal and grassy notes.
Its vibrant style, which leveraged the unique characteristics of the Marlborough land, was highly distinctive. It was hailed as "the wine that awakened the world to white wine" and is highly regarded as the wine that elevated NZ wine's global standing.
Currently, under the umbrella of Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, it continues to produce high-quality wines and contribute to the development of NZ wine.
Incidentally, Cloudy Bay's name rapidly spread worldwide after it formed a partnership with the famous champagne maker Veuve Clicquot.
