Harmonious Blend of Fruit and Barrel Flavors
A Chardonnay where fruit aromas and barrel flavors are well-balanced. It offers pleasant fruit notes of peach and apricot, with nutty undertones. The finish reveals a subtle bitterness from citrus peel and a mineral quality.
This wine pairs well with sautéed white fish, chicken gratin, and cheesy risotto. It also complements potato with butter and butter-grilled scallops.
About Auntsfield Estate Winery
Auntsfield Estate is one of Marlborough's most historic wineries.
David Herd, the founder of Auntsfield, was a European immigrant who moved to Marlborough in 1854. Recognizing the potential of Marlborough as an undeveloped wine region, Herd planted the first grapevines in 1873.
At Blenheim Airport, the gateway to Marlborough, a statue of David Herd stands to commemorate his achievement as the first person to make wine in Marlborough.
After enjoying high acclaim for 50 years, Auntsfield ceased wine production after 1931 due to succession issues and other factors.
However, in 2000, the Cowley family restarted winemaking. The Cowley family purchased the vast Auntsfield estate, preserving the original winemaking facilities while establishing new ones to resume production.
Today, Auntsfield is a family-run business led by two brothers, Ben and Luc Cowley.
Ben, the elder brother, is responsible for viticulture and lives on the vineyard to manage the grapes.
Luc, the younger brother, focuses on winemaking, honoring David Herd's legacy and the meticulously grown grapes tended by his brother.
