Soft-style Sauvignon

Marlborough's new brand, Alpine Rift, is a new brand produced by The Marlbroughist, a winery we carry.

It was established with the aim of creating a higher quality taste than typical Marlborough wines.

This Sauvignon Blanc is a well-balanced blend of grapes from the Wairau Valley, a sub-region of Marlborough known for its passionfruit notes, and the Awatere Valley, known for its stronger herbal notes.

Grapes are machine-harvested to enhance the aroma. Both wild yeast fermentation in oak barrels and cultured yeast fermentation in stainless steel tanks are employed.

To add richness, the wine undergoes sur lie aging after fermentation.

The aroma is primarily grapefruit citrus, mingled with tropical fruit aromas like pineapple.

The taste also has a firm fruitiness, and as the temperature rises, the pineapple notes come to the forefront.

The acidity is slightly milder than typical Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Overall, it has a soft, rounded taste.

The finish has a mineral impression reminiscent of seashells, enhancing its compatibility with food.

This wine pairs well with acidic dishes such as Aji Escabeche, Lemon Nanbanzuke with chicken breast and eggplant, and Lemon Sautéed Zucchini.

About Alpine Rift Winery

Alpine Rift is an up-and-coming winery located in the Marlborough region of New Zealand.

Founded by three experts, they leverage their extensive experience and expertise to produce high-quality Sauvignon Blanc.

They aim for sophisticated winemaking by combining Marlborough's excellent natural environment with the latest winemaking techniques.

They also operate "The Marlbroughist," a brand established by the same three individuals, offering wines with a different style from Alpine Rift.

Through these two brands, they express the diverse charm of the Marlborough region.

Stuart Dudley (Co-founder & Viticulturist)

With degrees in biochemistry and genetics, Stuart pursued viticulture out of a love for nature.

He gained experience at renowned Marlborough wineries and in 2010, he received the Young Viticulturist of the Year and Young Horticulturist of the Year awards in New Zealand.

He now works as an independent consultant and serves as the viticulturist for Alpine Rift and The Marlbroughist.

Richard Ellis (Co-founder & Winemaker)

Passionate about winemaking from a young age, Richard has nearly 20 years of experience in winemaking and sales worldwide.

He has extensive experience, particularly serving as a winemaker at Greywacke in Marlborough for seven years, working alongside Sauvignon Blanc pioneers.

He now leads the winemaking programs for Alpine Rift and The Marlbroughist and serves as the general manager for both brands.

David Nash (Co-founder & Marketing Director)

After a successful career in advertising, David transitioned into the wine industry and was involved in producing a documentary film about New Zealand wine.

With charismatic communication skills and innovative ideas, he leverages his experience working with top global wine brands to handle brand building and creative marketing for Alpine Rift and The Marlbroughist.

The combined knowledge and passion of these three experts support the innovative winemaking of Alpine Rift and The Marlbroughist. Through their two brands, they continue to explore the diversity and potential of Marlborough wines.
