Collection: Marathon Downs

Marathon Downs was born in 2021 out of the frustrations of COVID-19 lockdown and the passion of winery owners Jess and Nick. Since then, they have grown and evolved their range, creating handcrafted, unique wines.

The winery's name, Marathon Downs, comes from Jess's family farm in Marlborough's Awatere Valley; she is the fourth generation to run the farm.

Her family has lived on the land for over 120 years, farming sheep, cattle and arable crops and also growing wine grapes as contract growers.

Jess and Nick aim to keep human intervention to a minimum, crafting their wines with thought and passion, fermenting with wild yeasts and aging in old oak barrels, and all wines are unfined and bottled with minimal or no filtration.

Environmental sustainability is also important to them, so they use lightweight green glass and highly recyclable cork stoppers, and they plant trees every year on their farm to increase biodiversity.
