Rare Chardonnay is Truly Creamy
Scout is a boutique winery from Central Otago, New Zealand's southernmost wine region. This Chardonnay, crafted by young female winemaker Sarah Adamson, is truly delicate and mellow.
This wine pairs well with all cream-based dishes, such as salmon with cream sauce, potato gratin, and bacon quiche.
About Scout Wines
Established in 2017, Scout Wines is run by Sarah Adamson, who has over 13 years of winemaking experience around the world.
Since 2004, she has been involved in wine regions globally, traveling to various places to study and understand great wines, and working with many winemakers, which has significantly influenced her current winemaking style, taste, and philosophy.
Sarah's winery, Scout Wines, emphasizes adapting traditional winemaking styles to modern flavors.
Utilizing the beautiful fruits nurtured in Central Otago and interesting vineyard plots, she crafts flavorful wines without relying on additives or technology.
White wines are whole-bunch pressed, fermented with wild yeasts, and aged on their lees. Red wines, on the other hand, are hand-picked and fermented with wild yeasts. Maceration is lengthy, but plunging is kept to a minimum to avoid over-extraction. Various sizes of French oak barrels are used for aging, with a very low proportion of new oak to preserve the purity of the fruit.
The winery's name is inspired by Harper Lee's classic novel, 'To Kill a Mockingbird', and the spirit of "question and observation" embodied by its protagonist, Jean Louise Finch, is reflected in their winemaking.
About Central Otago
Central Otago, New Zealand's southernmost wine region, is renowned for its Pinot Noir and is often referred to as one of the "world's three great Pinot Noir regions," alongside Burgundy and Oregon.
Beyond Pinot Noir, the region focuses on cultivating aromatic white grapes. It is the only semi-continental climate among NZ's wine regions, characterized by significant diurnal temperature variation, a cool climate, and very dry conditions.
It is also a treasure trove of small wineries, and winery tours based in the picturesque town of Queenstown are popular.
