Although known for its fine Pinots, Martinborough also produces a number of well-balanced white wines.

This wine has a pleasant aroma of citrus and herbs and a mineral finish.

It's perfect with dishes that combine the umami of seafood with the bitterness of vegetables, such as salads made with scallops or salmon. It's also great with fried horse mackerel and chicken tempura.

Excellent balance of SB

Palliser Estate Pencarrow Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Approximately 80% of New Zealand's Sauvignon Blanc comes from Marlborough, but this wine is made in Martinborough , a region world-famous for producing high-quality Pinot Noir.

Martinborough wines often have different nuances than Marlborough, and this wine also has a somewhat subdued impression.

It has a strong citrus aroma, but rather than being a "powerful, fruity wine," it is more of an elegant wine that goes well with food.

If Marlborough is described as "powerful," then I think the word "elegant" is more appropriate for Martinborough.

It has a strong passion fruit and lemon flavor, with a slightly bitter peel-like taste.

The distinct acidity of citrus fruits like lime and lemon is layered with gentle herbal nuances like chervil, making it very pleasant.

This is not just a fruity wine, but also has a strong minerality and depth.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an SB that pairs well with food.

A slightly more mature Sauvignon Blanc, highly recommended!

Recommended pairings

We recommend pairing it with seafood dishes such as scallops and salmon.

This wine also has a slightly bitter citrus nuance, so it pairs well with slightly bitter vegetables such as green salads, mizuna, green currants, lettuce, and asparagus.

Scallop and salmon salad

salmon salad

Add scallops or salmon to your usual salad to enjoy the umami of seafood and the bitterness of vegetables.

Acquapazza

Acquapazza

Aquapazza, packed with the delicious flavors of seafood, tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, and more, is a surefire pairing.

This dish has a strong seafood flavor, so I think it goes really well with it!

Fried horse mackerel

Fried horse mackerel

Wines with a sour taste go perfectly with fried foods and other oily dishes.

Be sure to squeeze some lemon over the fried horse mackerel.

Chicken tempura

Chicken tempura

The crispy batter and delicious chicken meat go perfectly with wine.

About the Palliser Estate Winery

Palliserestate_logo

Palliser Estate is a leading winery in Martinborough, Wairarapa, that has been producing premium wines for over 20 years. The first vines were planted in 1984 and the estate was established in 1989.

Since Alan Johnson, now a leading figure in the New Zealand wine industry, became chief winemaker in 1991, the winery has won numerous awards both at home and abroad, including the London International Wine Challenge.

In addition, in winemaking, the company is committed to sustainable activities from three perspectives: soil (natural environment), people (local community), and business (corporate responsibility), and is known as a pioneer of environmentally friendly wineries.

Palliser Estate has released two series of wines: "Estate" and "Pencarrow." "Estate" is made primarily from grapes from old vines with low yields. "Pencarrow" is reasonably priced, yet has a fruity, well-balanced, and approachable taste.

About the Wairarapa region

Wairarapa is located in the southeastern part of New Zealand's North Island, and is a popular resort area with easy access, just about an hour's drive from the capital, Wellington.

The Martinborough subregion in this region has climate and soil conditions very similar to those of Burgundy in France, and is known as one of the world's top producers of Pinot Noir.
