This Pinot Gris perfectly harmonizes subtle fruit aromas and minerality, offering a rich umami flavor.
It pairs well with a wide range of dishes, from Chinese cuisine like chili shrimp and mapo tofu to ethnic dishes like lemongrass chicken stir-fry.
About Neudorf Vineyards
Neudorf Vineyards is a family-owned winery located in Upper Moutere, Nelson.
It was founded in 1978 when Tim and Judy Finn planted grapevines in the Nelson region, before it developed into a wine-producing area. They deemed Upper Moutere a "special place," built their home, and cultivated the land. They named the winery "Neudorf," which means "new village" in German, and began their winemaking journey.
They allow their grapes to grow as naturally as possible and avoid adding unnecessary elements during winemaking. They adopted sustainable farming methods early on, producing wine with consideration for the natural environment.
In addition to grapes from their own vineyards, they also use grapes from two contracted vineyards. By using grapes from nearby vineyards with different soil types, they are able to create wines that highlight the unique characteristics and diversity of the land.
Neudorf gained international recognition when it won the Chardonnay category at the "World's Best Wine Tasting" competition held in England in 1993, instantly spreading its name globally.
In recent years, their Pinot Noir has also received high acclaim. In 2009, they were named "New Zealand's Best Producer" in Tom Stevenson's Report in the UK. Bob Campbell MW praised their 2014 Moutere Chardonnay as "the finest white Burgundy," giving it a perfect score of 100 for the first time.
The wine's name, Tiritiri, means "sharing" in Maori.
Currently, the Finns remain as owners, and their legacy is carried on by the winemakers who have succeeded them.
About the Nelson Region
Nelson is located in the northern part of the South Island and is affectionately known as "Sunny Nelson" due to its exceptionally long annual sunshine hours.
This relatively small region is primarily home to small, boutique wineries.
Utilizing the abundant sunshine, it mainly produces Chardonnay and aromatic white wines such as Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, and Pinot Gris. Among red wines, Pinot Noir with rich fruit flavors is popular. Nelson is also famous for its hops and fruits.
