Hawke's Bay is one of New Zealand's leading Chardonnay producing regions, and with many wineries producing high quality Chardonnay, expectations are high.
Now, this Levret Estate Chardonnay...
Fermentation is done in both stainless steel tanks and wooden barrels , and malolactic fermentation is also carried out to reduce the acidity.
It is aged in barrels with the lees for nine months . It is bottled after clarification . This suggests that it will have a rich, clear taste with a fruity flavor.
Now, let's pour it into a glass.
The first fruit you notice is peach. The sweet aroma of ripe white peach is mixed with a citrus aroma like lime . You can also feel the aroma of roasted hazelnuts from the barrel .
The taste is very smooth . The barrel flavor is pleasant but not too strong. The fruit flavor is well-balanced with a slightly fruity flavor.
The aftertaste is long and firm , and the fragrant aroma of the barrel that returns after you have swallowed it enhances the feeling of satisfaction with each glass.
The recommended pairing is undoubtedly white fish meunière .
It would be good to add butter to the sauce, but since this wine is primarily fruit-based, it would be best not to overpower the butter flavor in the dish. I think it would go well with a simple grill with a little olive oil and a dash of lemon.
It is also good with cream stewed chicken and creamy seafood pasta . In either case, I think it is best to use light creamy dishes with a little more moisture.
