Felton Road is a prestigious winery with a "hands off" brewing philosophy. They blend Pinot from four different vineyards in Bannockburn. This is a unique Pinot that only they can make.
For meat, try Rossini-style beef tenderloin, roast duck, lamb chop steak, stewed venison, etc. For fish, try broiled eel and miso-marinated grilled salmon.
World-renowned Pinot
Felton Road is known as one of the best New Zealand wines.
The Central Otago region , where the winery is located, is known as one of the world's three major Pinot Noir producing regions and is attracting attention from wine fans around the world.
Felton Road is the winery that put this region on the map.
It all started with the first release of Pinot Noir in 1997. American wine critic Robert Parker gave this wine the highest score possible, which drew worldwide attention to not only Felton Road but also the Central Otago wine region.
Felton Road has continued to attract critics and wine lovers alike ever since.
Felton Road is a winery with a "no intervention" brewing philosophy. They aim to make wines as close to nature as possible and with minimal human intervention. Their most highly acclaimed wine is Pinot Noir. They have several series, which are divided by region, vineyard, and even vineyard block.
This wine is a Pinot named after the subregion "Bannockburn." It is made by blending grapes from four vineyards they own in Bannockburn.
The nose has notes of blackberry and American cherry, as well as animal nuances like leather, violet flowers, and dried herbs.
In the aftertaste, you can also clearly feel the nuances of vanilla and cocoa.
It has a complex blend of fruit, flowers and spices.
The first impression of the taste is that of stronger animalistic nuances like wood, spices, and tanned leather than the fruity nuances detected in the aroma.
The image is of these flavors blending seamlessly with the flavors of ripe cherries and berries.
It has a smoky and astringent flavor from the barrels, but is also very pleasant and smooth.
It has a wonderful balance. It's delicious to drink now, but I think it's also a wine with great aging potential.
As it ages, the fruit, spice and animal notes will become more harmonious. As it ages, the bitterness will become smoother, resulting in a wine with a more complex flavor.
I'm sure it will still be vibrant even after 10 years!
You could probably let it sit for 15 to 20 years. By then, it will be a very valuable piece!
Recommended pairings
This type of Pinot Noir, with its strong umami flavor, would be best paired with high-quality meat dishes.
Please enjoy this luxurious meat dish with your loved ones on a special occasion dinner.
This is a wine that can be enjoyed on the second day as well, so take your time and enjoy it.

About the Winery "Felton Road"
Felton Road is one of New Zealand's leading wineries. It began in 1991 when Stuart Elmes established a vineyard called Elms Vineyard in Bannockburn, Central Otago.
They then brought in winemaker Blair Walter and released their first Pinot Noir in 1997. The wine quickly captivated wine fans around the world, and Felton Road became a top winery with the highest level of recognition in the world.
Today, Central Otago has become a famous wine-producing region recognised by wine enthusiasts around the world, but it was Felton Road who was the pioneer that brought Pinot Noir to the attention of the world.
Branding in the style of Burgundy
Felton Road separates its wine series according to which vineyard grapes are used, and even releases several different varieties of the same variety harvested in the same year, each from a different vineyard.
This is because, even within the same Central Otago region, each field has its own unique soil characteristics, and these differences result in differences in the quality of the grapes and the aroma and flavor of the wine.
The more limited the vineyards from which the wine is harvested, the more limited the number of bottles produced, making it a "rare wine" and often resulting in a higher price.
This is a traditional branding practice in the Burgundy region of France where the wine originates.
A leading expert on the "Gravity Flow System" in New Zealand
At Felton Road, all of our vineyards are grown using biodynamic farming methods and we use a more natural approach to winemaking.
One feature worth noting is the "Gravity Flow System."
This is a method of using natural gravity as much as possible to process the harvested grapes and wine without using machinery.
In recent years, this system has been adopted by leading wineries around the world, but Felton Road was one of the first wineries in New Zealand to use this system, aiming to produce more natural wines.
About Central Otago
Central Otago, the southernmost region in the country, is known as a famous Pinot Noir producing area and is called one of the "three major Pinot Noir producing areas in the world" along with Burgundy and Oregon.
In addition to Pinot Noir, we are focusing on growing aromatic white grapes. This region is the only one of New Zealand's wine producing regions with a semi-continental climate, characterized by large daily temperature differences, coolness, and extreme dryness.
The region is also home to a wealth of small wineries, and winery tours based in the scenic town of Queenstown are popular.
