Crisp, Dry Riesling
A natural dry Riesling from the prestigious Felton Road. It is slowly fermented with wild yeast. The taste is a harmonious blend of crisp acidity and minerality.
It pairs perfectly with grilled rainbow trout, pan-fried salmon, and fried horse mackerel. It also goes well with stir-fried pork and aromatic vegetables.
Felton Road is famous for its Pinot Noir, but it also produces white wines of very high quality.
Beyond mere "fruitiness," the minerality felt in the finish is a testament to its high quality.
This wine also has a firm minerality and a satisfying body. It's a wine I definitely want Riesling lovers to try.
The aroma has notes of white flowers, pear, and white peach, while the pleasant acidity provides a refreshing character. A subtle oiliness adds depth to the wine.
NZ Rieslings are characterized by a wide range of styles, from dry to very sweet. This wine is classified as "dry," but Felton Road offers both a regular "Riesling" and this "Dry Riesling."
If you prefer less sweet wines, this "Dry Riesling" is recommended.
Incidentally, the grapes for this wine come from "Elms Vineyard," the origin of Felton Road.
This vineyard, where high-end Pinot Noir is also produced, is 100% organic, and the grapes are cultivated using biodynamic farming methods, taking a more natural approach to winemaking.
It has a natural quality, and I highly recommend it to natural wine fans. It's a typical NZ Riesling with rich fruitiness and a clean style.

Salt-Grilled River Fish
Salt-grilled river fish like Ayu and rainbow trout pair exceptionally well with this Riesling.
Pan-Fried Salmon
Grilled fatty salmon, or even rare steak, are also perfect.
If you have NZ's famous "King Salmon," even better!
Fried Horse Mackerel
Fried fish dishes are also recommended.
Don't forget to squeeze lemon on your fried horse mackerel!
About the Winery "Felton Road"
One of NZ's leading wineries, "Felton Road." It all began in 1991 when Stewart Elms established the "Elms Vineyard" in Bannockburn, Central Otago.
Later, winemaker Blair Walter was invited, and the first Pinot Noir was released in 1997. This wine quickly captivated wine enthusiasts worldwide, and Felton Road became a top winery with world-class acclaim.
Central Otago is now a renowned region recognized by wine lovers globally, but Felton Road is the pioneer that brought this region to international attention for its Pinot Noir.
Branding Modeled After Burgundy
At Felton Road, wine series are categorized by the vineyard from which the grapes are sourced, releasing multiple variations of the same vintage and varietal based on "vineyard differences."
This is because even within the same Central Otago region, each vineyard has its own soil characteristics, and these differences impact the quality of the grapes, as well as the aroma and taste of the wine.
The more limited the vineyards from which grapes are harvested, the more restricted the production volume, often leading to "rare wines" and higher prices.
This is a branding strategy traditionally practiced in the Burgundy region of France.
Pioneer of "Gravity Flow System" in NZ
At Felton Road, which emphasizes the power of nature, all vineyards are cultivated using biodynamic farming methods, and winemaking employs a more natural approach.
Of particular note is the "gravity flow system."
This method involves using natural gravity as much as possible, without machinery, in the process of harvesting grapes and fermenting wine.
While adopted by advanced wineries worldwide in recent years, Felton Road was among the first in NZ to use this system, aiming for a more natural winemaking process.
About the Central Otago Region
Central Otago, the southernmost wine region in New Zealand, is renowned for its Pinot Noir and is considered one of the "world's three great Pinot Noir regions" alongside Burgundy and Oregon.
Beyond Pinot Noir, efforts are focused on cultivating aromatic white grapes. This region is the only semi-continental climate among NZ's wine regions, characterized by significant daily temperature fluctuations, coolness, and extreme dryness.
It is also a hub for small-scale wineries, and winery tours based in the scenic town of Queenstown are popular.
