Dashwood is one of the sister brands of the winery Vavasor, which has been in business since the 1980s.

The brand was originally created with the American market in mind, but is now widely distributed both domestically and internationally, and is known in Japan as a casual Marlborough wine.

Winemaker Stu Marfell, who was born and raised in the Marlborough region, is a producer who is full of love for his local area and has been one of the first to work on reducing electricity consumption and CO2 emissions through solar power generation, with the desire to preserve the local's beautiful natural environment for future generations.

The wine is certified by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand and efforts are ongoing to reduce or eliminate processes that have an impact on the environment. Furthermore, the winery is actively working to reuse waste from the vineyards and recycle products, including bottles and cartons.

The wine label also features a flower called pohutukawa.

As it blooms around Christmas time, it is affectionately known locally as the "Christmas tree."
