The pioneer of such globally loved "NZ Sauvignon Blanc" is Cloudy Bay.
In 1985, Cloudy Bay released a Sauvignon Blanc that received high acclaim in the UK, which sparked global attention for NZ Sauvignon Blanc among wine enthusiasts worldwide.
The aroma and taste of that wine were unique at the time. Hailed as "the wine that awakened the world to white," it elevated New Zealand as a wine-producing region onto the global stage.
It's no exaggeration to say that without the success of Cloudy Bay, the branding success of "NZ = Sauvignon Blanc" would not have happened.
This wine is the latest vintage of Cloudy Bay's flagship Sauvignon Blanc.
The aroma presents strong citrus notes, such as grapefruit and pink grapefruit. Also, a tropical fruit scent like pineapple. When swirled, notes of cut grass and dried herbs also become distinctly noticeable.
This year's vintage immediately offers strong fruit and herbal aromas upon pouring. Furthermore, with aeration, it develops into a complex aroma with underlying sweetness and depth.
The taste is very impressive with a crisp acidity yet a rich umami that lingers on the tongue.
In addition to the grapefruit notes perceived in the aroma, there's a subtle hint of ginger-like spiciness.
Later, herbal nuances gently emerge, and the faint bitterness alongside the acidity is quite pleasant.
Although the alcohol content is slightly high at 13.5%, the palate is very fruity. The finish is dry, with a long, lingering umami.

About the winery "Cloudy Bay"
Cloudy Bay was established in 1985 by David Hohnen, founder of the Australian winery Cape Mentelle. It was one of the earliest wineries to take root in the Marlborough region, known as a major wine-producing area in New Zealand.
Cloudy Bay's Sauvignon Blanc was unique at the time, combining fruity aromas like passionfruit and tropical fruits with herbal and grassy notes.
Its lively style, which leveraged the unique characteristics of the Marlborough terroir, was highly individual, earning it the moniker "the wine that awakened the world to white" and is highly regarded as a wine that elevated the global standing of NZ wines.
Currently, under the umbrella of "Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton," it continues to produce high-quality wines and contribute to the development of NZ wines.
