  • The wine is produced using a meticulous process that includes hand harvesting, wild yeast fermentation and aging in French oak barrels.

  • A wide range of vine ages are used from the Martinborough Terrace vineyards, which have growing conditions similar to Burgundy.

A perfect pairing with duck

Ata Rangi is the flagship winery of Martinborough on New Zealand's North Island.

Known as a master of Pinot Noir.

However, their Pinot Noir is a premium product, and most of its sales price in Japan is over 12,000 yen.

Among them, this introductory Pinot "Crimson" is priced at 5,720 yen , making it the most affordable of their lineup.

To achieve this price, grapes from relatively young vines are used, but the winemaking process is purely natural and traditional.

Ata Rangi adheres to the traditional, simple and uncompromising principles that it values.

Martinborough, which is said to have growing conditions similar to those of Burgundy, is an extremely small wine-producing region but is a must-see for Pinot fans .

One of these areas , the Martinborough Terraces, is 4km long and 2km wide and is known as the area that produces the best Pinot grapes .

Crimson is made from grapes selected from Martinborough Terrace vineyards, ranging in age from 5 to 43 years.

The grapes are hand -picked, 80% are destemmed , and 20% are whole-cluster fermented . The wine is fermented with wild yeast in open-top stainless steel tanks and then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels , a thorough and careful process.

Tasting notes

The color is a little light. "Crimson red" often means "dark red with a pinkish tint," but this vintage isn't that deep in color.

The aroma of roses , raspberries and wild strawberries is impressive, as is the herbal aroma of thyme and rosemary .

It has a gentle texture and a strong acidity . It is light yet full of flavor , with fruity notes of pomegranate and raspberry , and well- rounded tannins that give it a long finish .

A wonderfully well-rounded and gentle Pinot. Truly elegant.

For pairing, roasted duck is ideal, but it also goes well with savory grilled chicken and red fish such as tuna and avocado yukke.

Project Crimson: Nature conservation efforts

Not only is this wine delicious, a portion of the proceeds from its sale will be donated to Project Crimson , an organization dedicated to protecting New Zealand's native plants.

The red flower on the label is the Pohutukawa, a native species that symbolizes New Zealand. This wine is also imbued with a desire to conserve the natural environment.

About the Ata Rangi Winery

AtaRangi_logo

Ata Rangi is a winery founded by Clive Patton in 1980. It is one of the oldest wineries in New Zealand and is widely known as a pioneer in Martinborough.

AtaRangi_family

Many critics have praised the winery as being in the top five in New Zealand, and its Pinot Noir, produced from vineyards that "have their roots in Romanée-Conti," has won numerous awards both domestically and internationally.

In addition, we are committed to producing sustainable wines that are kind to nature, and we do not use any pesticides, chemical fertilizers, herbicides, etc. Instead, we use organic and partially biodynamic farming methods, such as spraying natural soil, wildflowers, and synthetic agents.

The winery name "Ata Rangi" is a Maori word meaning "dawn sky" or "new beginning", reflecting their respect for the land and their work.
