Many of New Zealand's wine producing regions are cool climates. Sauvignon Blanc, with its crisp, firm acidity, has a flavor completely different from that of other countries, and has gained many fans in Japan.

It is also known for the high quality of its Pinot Noir, which offers excellent value for money compared to famous wine regions such as Burgundy.

Other wines that are also popular include aromatic varieties that take advantage of the cool climate, as well as Bordeaux blends, Syrah, and Chardonnay, which are rich in flavor and fruitiness and are produced in some of the warmer regions of the North Island.
