Waitaki Valley

About the Waitaki Valley Region

The Waitaki Valley is located 40km from the Pacific Ocean and is characterized by its mountainous terrain.

This region stretches approximately 20km along the Waitaki River, and its north-facing slopes are exceptionally well-suited for viticulture. The climate conditions are similar to Central Otago.

Notably, the soil composition is unique. Well-drained, high river gravels and ancient limestone layers are deposited alternately, which imparts a distinctive flavor to the wines of this region.

While Waitaki Valley wines retain the typical characteristics of the Otago region, the unique terroir of this area is reflected in the wines, giving them their own distinct personality.
