Prince Harry's sustainable travel campaign features NZ

Sustainable

Prince Henry, Duke of Sussex, grandson of the Queen of England, has launched a new campaign to promote sustainable travel, which is generating a lot of buzz.

Prince Harry has launched a new non-profit organization called " Travalyst " , and in the promotional video released as the organization's first activity, Prince Harry appears with popular New Zealand actors. And New Zealand is also the first country to be featured on the organization's website.

Prince Harry speaks about his feelings for New Zealand and Maori.

What is Travalyst?

Prince Harry, who left the British royal family on March 31, 2020, is currently living in the United States with his wife Meghan Markle, and is engaged in a wide range of activities, including serving as Chief Impact Officer at a Silicon Valley venture company and signing a contract with Netflix.

Launched in 2019, Travalyst is a non-profit organization that explores how travelers and travel businesses can achieve environmentally friendly and sustainable travel. Travalyst works with major companies such as Booking.com, Skyscanner, Trip.com Group, Tripadvisor, Visa, Google, and Expedia.

After you've traveled, you probably leave reviews of your destinations on Google or other travel sites, but Travalyst is doing the opposite, allowing travelers to rate themselves and make visible how sustainable their trip was.

What can you do to travel sustainably? Travalyst has some advice for you.

The advice, for example,

  • Use local services when traveling
  • Respect nature and wildlife
  • Choose places to stay that practice sustainable practices
  • Use services that are committed to protecting local communities and the environment
  • Take responsibility for your trash
  • Use eco-friendly transport
  • Reduce the use of disposable products
  • Rather than a trip that involves a lot of travel, we aim to extend the length of stays in one place and provide a more satisfying stay.

And so on.

Specifically, not changing towels frequently at hotels when traveling and carrying your own bottle instead of using plastic bottles are some actions that aim for sustainable travel.

Prince Harry receives praise from Kiwis

Here's a promotional video in which Prince Harry appears with popular New Zealand actors.

Prince Harry was out jogging when an auditor suddenly appeared and evaluated him on his trip to New Zealand in 2018. Prince Harry was questioned, "Didn't you drop a candy wrapper?" Then a second auditor appeared. Finally, a woman who seems to be the auditor's boss got in a car and collected the two auditors.

The woman was played by Lena Owen, star of Once Were Warriors, a representative New Zealand film that was also released in Japan in 1994.

The service, which evaluates the sustainability of travel, was launched in New Zealand in May. New Zealand was one of the first countries to appear in the campaign, as it aims to be a world leader in providing tourists with sustainable travel based on the Maori belief of being "guardians of the environment."

Thoughts on NZ

Prince Harry, who has visited New Zealand many times, sent a video message to Māori Television, a television station that broadcasts programs focusing on Māori culture and language.

Prince Henry is

My wife and I have been to New Zealand many times, and I feel a deep connection and respect for the Maori people. No matter how many times we visit, we have always been warmly welcomed. On our most recent trip, we were deeply touched by the connections we made with the people, and we have many wonderful memories.

It was especially an honour to meet young people who are committed to preserving Māori culture and contributing to their country and society.
"Supporting local communities and traveling while respecting the natural environment are values that can be experienced on a trip to New Zealand.
