The hugely popular Lizzo's first live show in NZ - spreading Body Positivity

Who is Lizzo, the powerful artist full of energy?

Lizzo, who was born in Detroit, USA and started her career in Texas, released Truth Hurts in 2017, and it became a big hit in 2019, two years after it was released. Her positive and bright personality, and her style of loving and revealing her plus-size body, are very popular not only with teens but also with adults. She is one of the most popular artists in the United States right now. She has been nominated in eight categories, including Best Album and Best Song, for the Grammy Awards to be announced on January 27th.

This is Lizzo's first visit to New Zealand.

It seems like they made time out of their busy schedules to enjoy the New Zealand summer, including visiting the beach!

Piha Beach, which was also posted on Lizzo's Instagram, is located west of Auckland and is one of the most famous beaches in New Zealand. It is also popular with surfers.

Lizzo leads the charge: "Love your body"

Late last year, Stuff, a major New Zealand web media, published an article about Lizzo and body positivity.

"How Lizzo helped make 2019 the year of body positivity"

Body positivity is the belief that all bodies are beautiful no matter what size, shape or skin color.

According to this article:

At 177cm tall and estimated at 135kg, Lizzo always leads the performances in live shows and music videos. Lizzo is not afraid to show off her body and her strengths, showing off her body suits like Beyonce's. From the Truth Hurts video where she wore a lace-filled wedding dress, to the American Music Awards where she made headlines with her palm-sized Valentino bag, to her Gucci dress on the long-running show Saturday Night Live, she always shows off not only her cleavage but also her confidence.

Psychologists say Lizzo is

The fact that a woman with a voluptuous body like Lizzo is being featured everywhere and succeeding has a positive impact on people.

He said.

Unfortunately, the idea that being thin is beautiful remains deeply rooted in many countries around the world. As a result, many people suffer from eating disorders such as anorexia, and many people suffer from low self-esteem.

A survey in New Zealand also showed that the biggest concern for young people is their body shape.

Amidst this, positive values such as "being thin isn't always right," "taking care of your body," and "loving your body" are gradually spreading throughout society, and Lizzo is making a major contribution to this movement.

Expanding Body Positivity

In recent years, there has been a growing trend among American lingerie brands to use a variety of models with different body types and races. This is another big movement that started with Body Positivity.

You can see that plus size models are thriving here too.

Victoria's Secret, the largest American lingerie manufacturer, is famous for its fashion shows featuring gorgeous lingerie models. In recent years, it has been criticized for always using only thin models, but in 2019, it finally began hiring plus-size and transgender models.

The reality in Japan is that there are still very few movements to encourage women, especially, to have confidence in their own bodies, with some lingerie manufacturers still using mostly white models, let alone plus-size models.

Lizzo is still not well known in Japan. I hope that this year, she and the body positivity movement will spread in Japan too.
