Giant potatoes found.

A couple living in Waikato on the North Island have discovered a giant potato in their garden, which has sparked speculation that it may be the biggest in the world!

It weighs as much as two babies!

I never realized I had potatoes growing in my garden - I've been walking around on them all through cucumber season and have no idea how long they've been in the ground.
"These are the words of couple Donna and Colin, who discovered the potatoes while working in their garden. They weren't actually growing potatoes, but they happened to come across them while they were plowing the field in preparation for spring.
They are the little happy things in life, the gifts of Mother Earth.
This potato weighed a whopping 7.9 kilos - roughly the weight of two newborn babies! The potato was named Doug .

When I first found it, I had no idea what it was. Is it a sweet potato? Or does it look like a giant truffle ghost?

I stuck a potato digging fork into the lump, digging it up, scraping off the surface, eating a bit, and then said to my wife, "Look, this is dirty, but it's a giant potato."

said Colin.

The current world record for the heaviest potato is 4.9 kg, but Doug has far surpassed that, and is currently waiting for the Guinness World Record to confirm it.

Potatoes, the staple food of kiwis

Potatoes are a staple food for Kiwis (New Zealanders), and the most famous one is Fish & Chips.

Fish and chips, a fast food that originated in the UK, has also become popular in New Zealand, where there are many immigrants from the UK, and has become the most popular takeaway food.

Thick potato sticks are fried until crispy and served wrapped in paper along with fried white fish.

Potatoes are an essential part of everyday meals at home.

The most common cooking methods for roast potatoes are simply baking them in the oven, boiling them, or mashing them, but today we'll introduce you to a recipe for salt and vinegar roast potatoes that was featured on Instagram by New World, a major New Zealand supermarket.

Ingredients: Potatoes: 1.5 kg Vinegar: 1/2 cup Rosemary: 2 sprigs Salt: a little

First, preheat the oven to 210 degrees. Then, cut the potatoes into quarters if they are the size of a fist. If you don't cut them too large, you can enjoy the crispy surface more.

Put the potatoes in a pot with enough water to cover them, add a little salt and 1/2 cup of vinegar. The recipe uses malt vinegar, but you can use whatever you have at home. When the potatoes are boiled until they are soft, discard the water and shake the pot to make them powdery.

Then, add plenty of olive oil to an oven tray or large dish and heat in the oven for 4-5 minutes, then add the potatoes and coat thoroughly (be careful, they're hot!).

Add rosemary if you have it. Bake in the oven for 35-45 minutes, turning the potatoes occasionally, until golden brown all over. Sprinkle with a little salt and vinegar when done. A great match for meat dishes!

If you don't have an oven, you can cut the potatoes into small pieces and use a toaster oven, or fry them in a frying pan.

Following the tradition of pairing potatoes in Germany, this dish would go well with Riesling, which has a good balance of sweetness and sourness. For example, how about "Greywacki Riesling 2018". I'm sure it will take your dinner to the next level!

By the way, after the giant potato Doug discovered this time has been certified by the Guinness Book of World Records, it will not be roasted but will be made into vodka.
