Every wine lover's dream is to sleep in a wine barrel!
This dreamy B&B (bed and breakfast: accommodation that provides rooms and breakfast) was featured in the New Zealand news media Stuff , so we'd like to share our review with you.
A giant wine barrel in the guest room!
"When you think of New Zealand wine, you think of Marlborough!" says Iwasu, the site's editor, referring to Marlborough as an important wine producing region in New Zealand.
The B&B we are introducing today , "Sleeping Barrels" , is built in two large wine barrels in the beautiful gardens of Marlborough.
Sleeping Barrel is conveniently located just a 15-minute drive from Blenheim , the largest town in Marlborough, yet away from the hustle and bustle of the city (although it's not exactly a big city!).
The altitude is a little high, so the sunset is especially beautiful.

When owners Sebastian and Kathleen were building their dream B&B in Marlborough, they came up with the idea of creating cabins shaped like wine barrels to add to the area's "wine paradise" feel.
It was Sebastian's mother's idea to set up the cabin in the garden, and he says that he wakes up in the morning to the sounds of the birds that gather in the garden.
The Instagram post features photos of the owners, Sebastian and Kathryn, and their daughter, Eirina.
Relax in a barrel
The wine barrels displayed in the guest rooms are not actually used for wine making.
Sebastian designed the barrel construction using pine wood, while Kathryn was in charge of the interior design, and the wine barrel rooms are more spacious and comfortable than they look from the outside.
This is what it looks like under construction.
Inside the room, you'll find a double bed, which has received positive reviews for its comfort, as well as a sofa and a mini dining area where you can get some snacks.
There is no kitchen so cooking is not possible, so many guests purchase wine from a nearby winery and enjoy snacks such as cheese from the supermarket.
By the way, New Zealand has very delicious dairy products and a wide variety of cheeses! You can buy cheese at supermarkets that is as good as any you'll find in Europe.
Enjoy Marlborough's spectacular views and wineries
Sleeping Barrel's location is close to Marlborough wineries, making it a perfect location for wine lovers.
Enjoy Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc in a wine barrel. You can walk or cycle along the bike trail to the winery.
The closest one is just a 15 minute walk away!
This is Seresin Estate in the Marlborough region.
The owner of this restaurant, Michael Seresin, was the cinematographer for the third Harry Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban."
The winery's handprint logo is very impressive.
Also, about a 10-minute bike ride away is Graywacke , a place that Iwasu has also visited once before!
And just a 20-minute bike ride away is Mahi , another winery that Iwasu-san loves.
Just imagining staying in a wine barrel and touring a winery sounds amazing!
By the way, the Greywacke and Mahi wines introduced here can also be purchased at Bokumo wine , which just opened on July 1st! Please give them a try!
