About the Winery "Villa Maria"
VILLA MARIA is a large-scale winery that leads the New Zealand wine market.
Since being founded in Auckland in 1961 by George Fistonich, the company has continued to provide a stable supply and currently exports to 60 countries.
The winery is also widely known for having won the most awards in Japan at wine competitions around the world.
Villa Maria has four vineyards in Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Auckland and Marlborough on the North Island, and each vineyard grows grape varieties suited to the land. The grapes are vinified and aged in Auckland, Marlborough and Hawke's Bay, and all bottling is done in Auckland.
The company began organic farming in 1999, and in 2007, 21 hectares of vineyards were certified by BioGro. Currently, all vineyards are being converted to organic farming. In addition, all Villa Maria wineries and vineyards are certified by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand™ (SWNZ).
